I can not tell you how excited I am! Our inaugural Pour on the Plaza is almost here.
Five years ago at El Gaucho Seattle we started a small intimate group of Washington’s best wineries for an event called the Legendary Swirl. With over 15 wineries by the fourth year I felt it was perfected. I could not wait to bring the event to the new El Gaucho Bellevue. I remember asking Mr. Mackay about that, to my dismay Chad said the Swirl stays in Seattle and I need to come up with an event specifically for Bellevue. On top of that, it should be the biggest and best event in Bellevue. Talk about just a small amount of pressure!

This is what I have come up with, well, with some help of course…

The inaugural Pour On The Plaza on Saturday, August 8, from 2-5pm, will take place outside our brand new City Center Plaza building on the neatly trimmed grass in the sun next to the fountain. Well, not quite a fountain like expected, you know the economy and all, its more like a wading pool, but still water.
With 25 wineries and more knocking on my door to participate we have assembled what I think may just keep me around a couple more weeks at least. (If just a mere 200-250 reservations are made)
With tremendous relationships with local winemakers some refer to them as “wine gods” we have the following as teasers for you:

Andrew Will, Pepper Bridge, Barons V.

Not good enough to spark your interest?

Ok, DeLILLE CELLARS, Long Shadows, Woodward Canyon.

More?

How about all of the Grape Killers? Don’t know who they are? (Baer, Sparkman, Mark Ryan, Stevens, Gorman, Darby, Guardian)
I am sure you are on the phone calling El Gaucho Bellevue by now to get in, better hurry. I am just sayin…

Brian Nova Local Jazz hero will be there for your entertainment.
Wild Ginger, Grand Cru Wine Bar & Shop and The Melting Pot join the festivities.

Looking forward to seeing you there on Saturday, August 8. For reservations, please call 425.455.2715.

Our inaugural wine dinner!

We are celebrating another first in the newest El Gaucho.

Our first wine dinner at El Gaucho Bellevue was a smash hit! We appreciate fine wines along with our 28-day dry-aged Certified Angus Beef Prime steaks. We limited the number of guests for this dinner to maximize the experience and we had a hoot. Stephanie Child, one of the dinner participants, took a few photos including this signed menu.

The menu presented by our Chef de Cuisine, Steve Cain, was a huge success. And the wines were equally well received. If you’ve ever met Chris Sparkman of Sparkman Cellars, then you know that you can combine a witty spirit and the appreciation of fine wine. You combine “Sparky” with another Southern boy, Rob Newsome of Boudreaux Cellars, and you are in for a great time. The two Southern boys offered their fine wines along with their entertaining hospitality. Mix a few on-edge Southern jokes with some guitar singing, and they soon had the whole room singing Rocky Top Tennessee, and some Hank Williams Jr. tunes. The winemakers provide the words and the guests loved every minute of it. At that time, of course, I had not been drinking so my singing was kept to the minimum - to say the least! My wine dinners have always been more about fun rather than being too technical. I get great satisfaction when our guests meet and share a special dinner experience -- as they usually do.The wines were fabulous, well crafted and award winning. Sparkman provide their Lumier Chardonnay, Wilderness Red blend and King Pin Cabernet Sauvignon. Newsome provided a Boudreaux Syrah, a fine Cabernet, and brought his award winning Reserve Cabernet.

Hope to see you at our big summer Wine Event: Pour on the Plaza coming August 8th. We’ll be pouring from 20 wineries – outside - on the grass of our our acre plaza!
